Northern Amazon states Amapa and Roraima account for nearly 60% of migrants' residences, while authorities have rescued 297 migrants illegally entering through Roraima since June 2024.
Smugglers, known as "coyotes," subjected migrants to exhausting journeys in poorly maintained vehicles, which police noted ignore all standards of road safety and human dignity.
With more than 40,000 refugee applications in 2025, the Ministry of Justice stated migration flows could increase if geopolitical tensions worsen; regularization through refugee status recognition remains a potential alternative.
