Brazilian government commits $617.5M to Amazon ecological investment
Banks will mobilize at least four times the public funds, with foreign investors providing 60% of private capital, officials said.
The Brazilian government has committed $617.5 million to ecological investment in the Amazon as part of the Eco Invest program announced at COP30.
Funds will support sustainable tourism, infrastructure improvements, and the expansion of the bioeconomy, which relies on preserving the forest while using natural resources.
The National Treasury allocated $617.5 million and eight banks pledged $2 billion through Eco Invest's latest auction, according to the Ministry of Environment.
Environment Minister João Paulo Capobianco said Eco Invest aids Brazil's net-zero carbon emissions target by funding economic activities in the Amazon that avoid deforestation.
The fourth auction of the Eco Invest Brazil program will be able to boost up to R$ 13.2 billion in investments aimed at bioeconomy, sustainable tourism and infrastructure. The results were announced by the ministries of the Farm and the Environment and Climate Change on Monday (25). Of the R$ 13.2 billion, approximately R$ 9 billion must be applied in the Legal Amazon.
