The NWSL Will Start Its Season Earlier in 2027 because of the Women’s World Cup
The league will play a full 30-game schedule and pause for the 2027 FIFA Women's World Cup, Commissioner Jessica Berman said.
- The National Women's Soccer League announced on August 5 that its 2027 season will kick off February 11 in Los Angeles during Super Bowl weekend, marking the earliest start in league history.
- To accommodate the 2027 FIFA Women's World Cup in Brazil, the NWSL will pause play from June 24 to July 25 while maintaining its spring-to-fall calendar through at least 2030.
- NWSL Commissioner Jessica Berman reported nearly 40 million impressions on Instagram and YouTube, with average attendance currently at 11,174 per game, the second-highest on record.
- Working closely with ESPN, the league will integrate the NWSL into Super Bowl weekend storytelling, with Berman stating the league is "very excited about that" promotional opportunity.
