Brazil sees no need to announce tariff measures for now, minister says

BRASILIA (Reuters) - Brazil's Finance Minister Fernando Haddad said on Tuesday now is not the time for Latin America's largest economy to announce any measures in response to trade tariffs imposed by the U.S.

That would be my advice to the Brazilian government on how to address U.S. President Donald Trump's tariff fever.Brazil has only received a 10 percent tax on Trump's infamous tariff retaliation table, which will not significantly affect Latin America's largest economy. On the contrary, this relatively smaller barrier may benefit Brazil, one of the main suppliers of cereals, meat, oil and metals.

Close to the European Union and with potential advantages in Asia, the largest country in Latin America can benefit from the new tariffs. It may even become an intermediate point for European products to arrive cheaper in the United States.
