Million Pound Shot - Bradley Walsh Hopes Faux Gameshow Educated Viewers on Gambling
Channel 4 said the one-off quiz was a staged experiment using actors to show how gambling tactics can push viewers and contestants into risky spending.
Channel 4 aired 'Million Pound Shot' on Sunday, revealing the Bradley Walsh-hosted quiz was a staged hoax rather than a genuine game show designed to illustrate gambling industry dangers.
Producers used actors to play contestants and audience members to demonstrate how the gambling industry manipulates customers. The show, recorded just over two weeks ago in Maidstone, replicated abusive betting tactics.
During the broadcast, contestant Reece appeared to lose £6,000 as the unaware studio audience encouraged him. Walsh later revealed the entire event was a performance to provide social commentary on gambling.
Addressing viewers on Instagram, Walsh stated he felt strongly about the subject and encouraged affected viewers to seek support from charities including Gambling Harm UK and Gambling with Lives.
Critics highlighted the irony of Channel 4 airing an anti-gambling stunt while hosting shows sponsored by betting companies. Will Prochaska, director of the Coalition to End Gambling Ads, urged government action on the sector.
