Boston Bar, B.C., residents look on as wildfire burns near small highway community
Crews are using 221 firefighters and 14 helicopters as hot, dry winds drive the Brunswick Complex toward nearby communities, officials said.
Two out-of-control wildfires near Boston Bar reached a combined 20,000 hectares on Wednesday, forcing evacuation orders and alerts across the Fraser Canyon.
Sustained strong winds and dry conditions have persisted for 48 hours in the Fraser Canyon, with no precipitation reported since the fires sparked last week.
An incident management team, 221 firefighters, 14 helicopters, and 34 pieces of heavy machinery are assigned to the complex, prioritizing the Highway 1 corridor and power lines.
The Fraser Valley Regional District confirmed structures were destroyed by the blazes, though dangerous conditions have delayed full damage assessments for residents and business owners like Jagdip Singh Bihal.
BC Wildfire Service crews are operating 24-hours a day establishing containment lines, as forecasts warn that hot, windy weather will continue challenging suppression efforts for several days.
Shayne Findlay, owner of Blue Lake Resort, near Boston Bar, B.C., reported that "the wind was raging" as a forest fire ravaged the property on Tuesday night, destroying several buildings, including the house of the complex manager.
