Borno: Troops kill eight terrorists in foiled attack
Nigerian Joint Task Force troops successfully defended FOB Mandaragirau, neutralizing 38 ISWAP fighters and recovering weapons with no fatalities on their side, military said.
- On Saturday, Nigerian troops of the Joint Task Force, North East, Operation HADIN KAI , neutralized 38 ISWAP insurgents during a coordinated attack on a Forward Operating Base in Mandaragirau, Borno State.
- Security analyst Zagazola Makama reported soldiers were positioned ahead of the early morning assault and engaged attackers with superior firepower, forcing the insurgents into a disorderly withdrawal after they attempted to overrun the base.
- Troops recovered 7 AK-47 rifles, 8 magazines, and 4 RPG bombs with close air support from the Air Component of OPHK; one Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected vehicle sustained damage, but no soldiers were killed.
- "Blood trails were observed along the withdrawal routes," indicating multiple wounded insurgents escaped, while human intelligence confirmed over 30 additional bodies strewn along escape paths toward the Timbuktu Triangle.
- Injured personnel are currently receiving treatment at a military facility in Biu, as military leadership urged troops to sustain operational control and build on recent gains against the insurgency in Borno State.
