Alleged Bondi gunman Naveed Akram loses bid to give family anonymity
Judge Hugh Donnelly said the 40-year order was unnecessary because the family details were already widely shared online.
A man accused of carrying out one of Australia’s worst mass shootings lost a court bid to block media from revealing his family’s identities.
Naveed Akram, 24, is accused of killing 15 people in a shooting at a Jewish Hanukkah event on Bondi Beach, an attack police say was inspired by Islamic State.
He had requested a 40-year gag order to protect details about his family due to safety concerns, but the court rejected the request.
