Boelo: Met Office names second storm to hit UK in 24 hours
Forecasters warn of 60-80mph gusts, heavy rain and possible travel disruption as the second named storm in two days moves in.
On Sunday, Richard Baines, 60, curator at Logan Botanic Garden, died after being struck by a tree in Dumfries and Galloway during Storm Boelo, which brought 80mph gusts across Scotland and Northern Ireland.
Storm Boelo, the second named storm of the season, followed Storm Austen, which brought heavy rain and severe gales to southern England on Friday, complicating recovery efforts as the second system hit the north.
Engineers restored power to more than 50,000 homes by Monday, though thousands remained without electricity. Rail services across Scotland faced speed restrictions and cancellations due to fallen trees and flooding on tracks.
Scottish Transport Secretary Stephen Flynn advised travelers to monitor official channels as the Scottish Government's Resilience Room met on Monday to address the storm's aftermath and prepare for a fresh yellow wind warning on Tuesday.
Tributes were paid on Monday to Baines, the curator of Logan Botanic Garden, while Greenpeace campaigner Maja Darlington urged government action, calling recent storms a "doomloop of extreme weather.
