Body of teenage boy recovered from water near Cowbury Reservoir, says Greater Manchester Police
Police said no suspicious circumstances were found as the boy’s death raised the nationwide heatwave drowning toll to seven.
Greater Manchester Police recovered the body of a 15-year-old boy from Cowbury Reservoir in Stalybridge on Saturday evening after emergency services responded to reports he got into difficulty in the water.
Tameside CID detectives stated they are "at this stage confident that there aren't any suspicious circumstances," while formal identification has been completed and the family notified.
This incident brings the total number of drownings across the country during the recent heatwave to seven, with tragedies prompting widespread warnings about cold water shock syndrome dangers.
Separately, emergency services are conducting a concurrent search operation at Clifton Country Park in Salford following reports of a boy in difficulty in the River Irwell.
Chief Inspector Helen Baxter said yesterday's events were "devastating" and urged the public to "avoid being tempted to cool off in reservoirs, rivers, canals or ponds.
