Bodies of man and boy discovered at separate homes in Dublin
Gardaí suspect a murder-suicide after bodies of a 48-year-old man and his 11-year-old son were found in separate west Dublin homes; forensic exams are ongoing.
- On Thursday, January 8, Gardaí found the bodies of a man, aged 48, and an 11-year-old boy at homes in Ballyfermot, Dublin 10 and Clondalkin, Dublin 22.
- Gardaí suspect the man killed the child and then took his own life, treating the deaths as a suspected murder‑suicide, and they are not looking for anyone else.
- Both locations have been preserved for forensic examination by the Garda Technical Bureau, the coroner has been notified, and the Office of the State Pathologist will arrange post-mortems.
- Officers found the man's body in a shed to the rear of a property and removed it to the city morgue, while a Senior Investigating Officer is leading enquiries and gardaí spent Thursday morning tracing relatives.
- Local residents and councillors said they were shocked and it is believed the pair had been reported missing for a short time last year before being found safe.
