BMW China's new i3 delivers 1,213 km range with 8.8 kWh/100km efficiency in an endurance test
BMW said the sedan used 8.8 kWh per 100 km and reached 1,213 km on one charge, setting a brand record.
On Thursday, October 15, 2026, BMW China began mass production of its sixth-generation battery technology at its Shenyang production base, showcasing the i3 50L, which recently achieved a brand record of 1,213 km on a single charge.
This new battery technology powers BMW's upcoming Neue Klasse models, featuring a 113.4 kWh cylindrical battery and 800V architecture, offering over 20% higher energy density and 30% faster charging than previous generations.
During the long-distance endurance test, the rear-wheel-drive i3 50L maintained an energy consumption of 8.8 kWh per 100 km, achieving a 118% range performance rate across highways, national roads, and urban streets.
Surpassing the 1,202 km record set by the Mercedes Vision EQXX in 2022, the i3 50L is tailored specifically for the Chinese market, while international markets will initially receive dual-motor all-wheel-drive variants.
Aiming for over 95% of BMW models sold in China to be produced locally by 2030, BMW Group Chairman Oliver Zipse emphasized the $1.5 billion expansion in Shenyang as the company invests in its electric vehicle lineup.
The new BYD Da Han promised more than 1,000 km of autonomy, but in a real test he could only travel half. The fault is the big problem of Chinese cars.
