Blast outside a Syrian defense ministry building kills a soldier, wounds 12 people
A military unit found an explosive device near the ministry before a car bomb detonated, leaving at least 21 wounded, officials said.
On Tuesday, a car bomb exploded outside a Defense Ministry building in Damascus's Bab Sharqi district, killing one Syrian soldier and wounding 12 others, including civilians, authorities reported.
Soldiers had discovered a separate bomb ready to detonate in the Bab Sharqi district and were attempting to dismantle it when the car exploded nearby, the Defense Ministry said.
Emergency and ambulance teams from the Syrian State health ministry responded to the explosion, transferring the 12 wounded to nearby hospitals for ongoing treatment and monitoring.
No group has immediately claimed responsibility for the attack; however, similar strikes have been attributed to the Islamic State in past incidents.
The Islamic State has claimed responsibility for such attacks since the Assad family was removed from power in December 2024, ending five decades of rule in Syria.
