Setback for BJD: Debashish Samantaray Quits Party and Rajya Sabha Membership, Set to Join BJP
Samantaray said he was systematically belittled and alleged the party had drifted from its ideology, as BJD’s Rajya Sabha strength fell to five.
On Monday, Biju Janata Dal Rajya Sabha member Debashish Samantaray resigned from the party and his upper house seat, alleging he was being "systematically belittled" in the organisation.
Samantaray blamed close aide V.K. Pandian for the party's recent electoral losses and alleged that "vested interest groups" blocked his access to former Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.
The former legislator criticized the Biju Naveen Inspirational Foundation , a public charitable trust headed by Pandian, which operates from the Delhi house of legendary leader Biju Patnaik.
Following his departure, Samantaray indicated he might join the Bharatiya Janata Party , mirroring the path of former colleagues Sujeet Kumar and Mamata Mohanta who switched parties.
Samantaray formally submitted his resignation to Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan, the Rajya Sabha chairperson, following the precedent set by Kumar and Mohanta before their BJP transitions.
