Bipartisan duo wants to remind Congress, Trump of China's 'atrocities' ahead of Xi visit

Lankford Introduces Resolution Remembering Victims of Chinese Communist Party

U.S. Senator James Lankford and U.S. Senator Angus King have introduced a bipartisan resolution marking the 105th anniversary of the Chinese Communist Party and remembering victims of political and religious repression in China. The resolution cites events including the Great Chinese Famine and Tiananmen Square massacre, along with the persecution of Christians, Uyghur Muslims, Tibetan Buddhists, Falun Gong practitioners and political dissidents. It also raises concerns about repression targeting dissidents living outside China. “For 105 years, the Chinese Communist Party has oppressed its own people, persecuted people of faith, and denied basic freedoms,” Lankford said. “As the United States engages with Beijing, we cannot forget the millions who have suffered under the CCP or those who continue to live under its repression today.” The resolution was introduced as Chinese President Xi Jinping visits Washington for a state visit with President Donald Trump. It also recognizes continued Chinese political, military, economic and social pressure against Taiwan.
