Yogi Adityanath Cabinet Expansion Is Likely Tomorrow
Sources said the government may add six ministers and balance caste and women’s representation ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections.
On Sunday, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's Uttar Pradesh government is expected to induct six new ministers at 3 pm, following his Saturday meeting with Governor Anandiben Patel to discuss the cabinet expansion.
The Bharatiya Janata Party aims to consolidate social coalitions ahead of the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections by filling six vacant ministerial posts; the government currently operates with 54 ministers against a maximum permissible strength of 60.
Sources suggest potential inductees include Krishna Paswan, Pooja Pal, Manoj Pandey, Bhupendra Chaudhary, Ashok Kataria, and Romi Sahni, with officials also considering greater representation for women in the expanded council of ministers.
Apart from fresh inductions, sources indicate the government may implement replacements within the existing ministry, particularly following Cabinet Minister Jitin Prasada and Minister of State Anoop Pradhan Valmiki's election as Members of Parliament.
The development comes at a crucial time for the BJP, which seeks to strengthen its base following setbacks during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections by achieving social balancing through representation of different caste groups.
