More than Eight in 10 England Fans Think They Will Fail to Win World Cup
A OnePoll survey of 1,965 fans found only 16% expect England to win the tournament, while 30% predict a quarter-final exit.
Ahead of the Fifa World Cup beginning Wednesday, new betting data shows only 20 per cent of England fans are backing the Three Lions to win, reflecting notable lack of confidence among supporters.
Years of near misses have created a realistic mood among fans, with many questioning whether the squad led by Thomas Tuchel has enough to succeed after narrowly losing the Euros final two years ago.
According to research commissioned by BOYLE Sports, almost a third of supporters predict the team will exit at the quarter-finals, while just 16 per cent believe they will win the tournament.
Tom Ritzema, group trading director at Entain, noted that "football loyalty and betting logic don't always go hand in hand," as 26 per cent of fans admit they would back an opposing side if their own team faced elimination.
Other nations show stronger belief, with Portugal leading the pack as 57 per cent of domestic bets are placed on their home side, demonstrating significantly higher patriotic support than England.
