Mamata Banerjee, Other TMC Leaders Receive Legal Notice From Rebel MP Kakoli’s Son Amid Barasat Ticket Row
The psychiatrist demanded a public clarification and apology after denying claims that he sought the Barasat Assembly ticket and that he and his mother drank alcohol.
On Sunday, Dr. Baidyanath Ghosh Dastidar sued Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee and four other leaders, seeking an apology for false claims that he sought a Barasat Assembly Constituency ticket.
Tensions within the TMC escalated as MP Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar leads 18 rebel MPs against party leadership, a crisis that deepened Saturday when Sudip Bandyopadhyay joined dissenters after meeting Union Minister Bhupender Yadav in Delhi.
Baidyanath, a psychiatrist trained at Harvard University and Massachusetts General Hospital, refuted personal allegations as "completely untrue," explicitly denying claims that he or his mother consume alcohol.
The legal notice demands a public apology within 15 days, warning, "Failing an appropriate response, I intend to pursue such legal remedies as may be available to me under law, including proceedings for defamation."
Allegations in the notice claim Indian Political Action Committee representatives and TMCP President Suhom Pal pressured Baidyanath to run, further complicating the 2026 West Bengal Assembly election aftermath and ongoing party instability.
