Ripley's Believe It or Not! on San Francisco's Fisherman's Wharf Announces Closure
Jim Pattison Jr. said the attraction will shutter after nearly 60 years, and the company plans a sale of select San Francisco exhibits.
On Tuesday, President of Ripley's Believe It or Not! World Entertainment Jim Pattison Jr. announced the company will close its iconic Fisherman's Wharf location by year's end.
Opened on February 2, 1967, the museum served as a major tourist attraction for nearly 60 years, honoring founder Robert Ripley's deep roots in San Francisco and his work at the San Francisco Bulletin.
Before closing, management will sell select San Francisco-themed exhibits, including crutches from Baseball Hall of Famer Joe DiMaggio and a chicken-wire portrait of Janis Joplin.
Ripley's spokesperson Suzanne Smagala-Potts explained the closure reflects the 'changing landscape of Fisherman's Wharf,' while the company provides support to employees during the transition.
WorldEntertainment continues operating over 100 attractions across nine countries. Pattison stated, 'While we're saying goodbye to this location, we're not necessarily saying goodbye to San Francisco.
