‘Law & Order’ Returning for Season 26 With Major Change
NBC is shifting the long-running drama to 10 p.m. as it averaged 4.75 million viewers and stayed in Nielsen’s streaming top 10.
NBC renewed Law & Order for its 26th season on Monday, just ahead of the network's upfront presentation, shifting the drama to 10 PM on Thursdays for the 2026-27 season.
Budget discussions delayed the official announcement, as Lisa Katz, president of scripted content for NBC and Peacock, noted the network prioritized finding space for new series while managing a scheduling puzzle.
The drama remains a reliable performer, averaging 4.75 million viewers this season with seven days of linear viewing and consistent top-10 presence on Peacock and Hulu streaming charts.
While the main series returns, the franchise landscape shifts as NBC canceled Law & Order: Organized Crime; SVU earned renewal for Season 28, though The Hunting Party's fate remains undecided.
Returning in late September or early October, Law & Order will anchor Thursday nights at 10 PM, with The Traitors opening the block and SVU airing at 9 PM.
