BrewDog ad banned for implying alcohol can cure boredom

UNITED KINGDOM, AUG 5 – The Advertising Standards Authority banned BrewDog's poster for breaching rules against implying alcohol can ease emotional issues, following one complaint and immediate removal by the media owner.

  • The Advertising Standards Authority banned a BrewDog ad for implying that alcohol can overcome boredom, loneliness or other problems.
  • BrewDog said the ad did not imply that the beer provided comfort, relief or escape from any form of distress, and positioned the product as being of reliable quality rather than a remedy or coping mechanism.
  • The ASA acknowledged that the ad had an air force theme and the scenarios presented were mundane and everyday annoyances, but still ruled that the ad implied drinking alcohol could overcome boredom, loneliness or other problems and must not appear again.
