Beatrix Potter clock to return to shopping centre
- The Tailor of Gloucester clock, originally unveiled in October 1994, is returning to the Eastgate Shopping Centre after being disassembled in 2013.
- The clock, a centerpiece of the shopping centre based on Beatrix Potter's story, was disassembled because replacement parts were no longer available, and it was subsequently donated to Pied Piper Appeal.
- Most eye-catching and memorable elements of the clock were shared with special educational needs schools around the county, and after 12 years, these elements will be displayed in a dedicated space, including at the top of the escalators, during the Easter holidays for a new generation to see.
- Westgate councillor Pam Tracey stated, "the clock’s return is just what the city centre needs," while a Conservative councillor added, "Hopefully it will bring more footfall there as kids will want to see the mouse come out of the clock."
- City leaders are relying on the £11m levelling up funding for the Greyfriars redevelopment to revitalise the city centre, which includes overhauling the shopping centre and market hall, relocating the market hall, and creating new community spaces, serviced apartments, flexible workspaces, an urban park, an outdoor gym, a play area, and a cycle hub.
