Vaccine Notifications Going Out Now in B.C. as Respiratory Illness Season Begins
B.C. is sending vaccine notices to higher-risk residents as influenza cases circulate and officials stock nearly 2 million flu doses and 1.5 million COVID-19 doses.
On Wednesday, British Columbia announced a free immunization campaign offering vaccines against influenza, COVID-19, RSV, and pneumococcal disease to all residents starting this week.
Provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry confirmed the province secured almost two million influenza doses and 1.5 million COVID-19 doses, prompting priority notifications to begin Monday, Oct. 5.
Appointments for higher-risk populations begin Tuesday, Oct. 13, expanding to the general public through early November via the Get Vaccinated registration system, pharmacies, and health clinics.
Seniors aged 75 and older and Indigenous individuals aged 60 and older are newly eligible for free RSV vaccinations, protecting vulnerable populations against severe respiratory illness.
Dr. Bonnie Henry emphasized that immunization remains the most effective defense against rising viral circulation, while advising residents to clean hands regularly and stay home when sick.
