BC NDP promises new support for small businesses hit by U.S. trade war
The fund would offer interest-free loans of up to $1 million for 72 months and a $5,000 tax credit for youth hires.
On Wednesday, Oct. 7, British Columbia NDP Leader David Eby announced new economic support in Surrey, promising loans and tax credits for small businesses hit by U.S. tariffs ahead of the Oct. 24 election.
The New Democrats proposed the Small Business Tariff and Wildfire Relief Fund, offering interest-free loans of up to $1 million for up to 72 months to qualifying businesses recovering from recent wildfires or tariffs.
Eby also promised a $5,000 refundable tax credit for small businesses that hire young people aged 18 to 30, targeting youth employment before the election.
Calling Trump an "absolute bully," Interim B.C. Conservative leader Lorne Doerkson argued that standing up to the United States requires concrete action, not press releases.
The NDP plan also includes expanded export support for companies seeking markets beyond the United States, as leaders continue provincial tours ahead of the Oct. 24 vote.
