Party Leaders Love Surrey in Final Days of B.C. Election Campaign
Both parties are pitching new hospitals and transit projects as Surrey’s 10 ridings emerge as key battlegrounds in the provincial campaign.
With Saturday's provincial election approaching, NDP Leader David Eby and Conservative Leader Lorne Doerkson are focusing campaign efforts on Surrey, where the city's 10 ridings have become pivotal battleground seats.
Surrey's population has doubled in the past 25 years and is growing by approximately 1,000 residents monthly, straining infrastructure and prompting both parties to pledge major investments.
Eby highlighted $12 billion in existing major projects at Surrey City Hall, while the Conservative Party promises a new women's and children's hospital and a SkyTrain extension to Newton.
Early voting in Surrey-Serpentine surged, with Elections B.C. reporting that ballots cast from Oct. 16 to 19 increased by about 65 per cent compared to the first four days of advance voting in 2024.
Past results in Surrey-Guildford and City Centre demonstrate razor-thin margins, with previous elections decided by 22 votes and 1.6 per cent respectively, making the outcome uncertain.
