B.C. court to rule on Constitutional challenge of activists' trafficking convictions
British Columbia Supreme Court Justice Catherine Murray is expected to rule on a constitutional challenge by Jeremy Kalicum and Eris Nyx.
Kalicum and Nyx were convicted of drug trafficking after Vancouver police raided their Drug User Liberation Front compassion club in 2023.
Their lawyers argued that closing the club violated addicted people’s Charter rights by forcing them to use an unregulated drug supply.
Murray said their intentions were good but ruled that buying drugs online and selling them was not protected by an exemption for drug storage and testing.
