- In 2016, Chinese authorities alerted Tsui to a "historical fraud" case involving about $2.8 billion in losses from the Industrial Commercial Bank, now worth about $560 million, allegedly involving Vancouver resident Hongwei Sun.

- Former Mountie Majcher pleaded not guilty Monday to committing "preparatory acts" under Canada's Security of Information Act, with prosecutors alleging he prepared to coerce Sun into returning to China for the government's benefit.
- Justice Martha Devlin previously ruled Majcher's warrantless 2023 airport arrest unconstitutional, finding grounds "amount only to a hunch or generalized suspicion" that he conspired to assist China, according to a March 26 ruling.
