B.C. anglers will soon be able to buy licences through online WILD system

BRITISH COLUMBIA, CANADA, JUL 23 – B.C. will integrate fishing and hunting licences on one platform to improve efficiency and data for managing 350,000 anglers annually, reducing wait times and workload.

  • Beginning in spring 2026, anglers in British Columbia will have the option to obtain freshwater fishing licences through the province’s online WILD system.
  • This change follows the platform's 2016 launch to improve hunting licence access and the decision to expand it for streamlined fishing licence management.
  • Starting in fall 2025, individuals not yet registered in the system will be able to set up profiles and receive a complimentary Fish and Wildlife Identification , which will be required to purchase fishing licences.
  • In recent years, about 93% of limited-entry hunting applications have been completed online through WILD, while around 350,000 anglers in B.C. participate in fishing annually.
  • The expansion aims to simplify licence management, improve data collection, and support sustainable decisions for fish and wildlife management in B.C.
