- Surrey RCMP launched an investigation on Saturday into hate-motivated vandalism at the Fleetwood Islamic Centre, where congregants discovered threatening graffiti and raw bacon attached to the facility.
- According to the Fleetwood Islamic Academy Society, attendees arriving for morning prayers discovered the defacement, which included phrases such as "get out or die" and "Islam is trash."
- Condemning the incident, British Columbia Attorney General Niki Sharma stated her "heart goes out" to the society and the Muslim community following the "hate incident and threats of violence."
- Between 11 p.m. Friday and 5 a.m. Saturday, the crime occurred, with the congregation actively cooperating with the RCMP to assist in the ongoing investigation.
- Reminiscent of a 2017 incident in Quebec City involving pig matter at a mosque, the society noted the vandalism reflects broader concerns regarding hate-motivated actions.
