BBC Comedy that ‘Continues to Capture Hearts of the Nation’ Renewed for Third Series
The six-episode return follows strong ratings growth, including 6.6 million average viewers and a 7.4 million Christmas special audience, the BBC said.
The BBC confirmed Amandaland will return for a third series, delivering a new six-part run following its BAFTA win for Best Scripted Comedy, announced by Director of BBC Comedy Jon Petrie at the BBC Comedy Festival in Liverpool.
Featuring Lucy Punch, Dame Joanna Lumley, and Philippa Dunne, the Motherland spin-off depicts Amanda's chaotic life in South Harlesden, or 'SoHa,' and has amassed an average of 6.6 million viewers to date.
The 2025 Christmas special became the UK's most-watched comedy episode that year with 7.4 million viewers over 28 days, while securing 1.2 million viewers aged 16-34.
Petrie also announced renewals for other award-winning series including Black Ops, featuring Gbemisola Ikumelo and Hammed Animashaun, demonstrating the broadcaster's commitment to building long-running hits on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
At the BAFTAs on Sunday, co-writer Holly Walsh expressed her dream of casting Melania Trump as a guest, describing her as "America's Amanda," while writers plan to utilize AI tools for creating upcoming scripts.
