Iconic EastEnders Character Set to Leave Soap 20 Years After Taking on Role
Michelle Ryan’s character is set to depart after a year back on the soap, with bosses keeping quiet about how Zoe Slater leaves.
BBC EastEnders confirmed that actress Michelle Ryan will depart the soap later this year, one year after returning to reprise her role as Zoe Slater for the first time in 20 years.
The character remains famous for her dramatic storylines, including confronting her mother Kat Slater with the line, "You ain't my mother," and her involvement in the murder of Den Watts.
Since her June 2025 return, Slater has been central to recent drama, searching for her secret twins Josh and Jasmine while reconnecting with cousin Stacey Slater after fabricating a story about fleeing loan sharks.
A production source stated, "With such an iconic character, Zoe's exit is never going to be without drama," though reports suggest she could be killed off with details remaining unannounced.
While the soap wished Ryan the best for her future, her departure marks the conclusion of a storyline in development for some time, ending her second stint on the long-running series.
