Gregg Wallace Gives Statement After 45 Allegations 'Substantiated'
GREATER LONDON, ENGLAND, JUL 14 – An independent investigation substantiated 45 of 83 misconduct allegations against Wallace, mainly inappropriate sexual language and one incident of unwelcome physical contact, BBC said.
- In November 2024, Banijay UK, the production company behind MasterChef, stated that Gregg Wallace would temporarily leave his position on the show during an inquiry into past misconduct claims.
- The investigation, led by law firm Lewis Silkin over seven months, examined 83 allegations spanning 2005 to 2018, with 45 substantiated claims mostly involving inappropriate sexual language and behaviour.
- Wallace, aged 60, acknowledged some humour and language missed the mark, apologised for distress caused, and revealed a recent autism diagnosis that helped him understand his communication patterns.
- The BBC stated the behaviour fell below its values, confirmed it has no future plans to work with Wallace, and both Banijay and BBC agreed his return to MasterChef is untenable.
- The case highlights missed earlier opportunities to address concerns, prompted calls for improved industry standards, and led to Wallace stepping down permanently while a filmed MasterChef series remains unaired.
