Scott Mills Topped BBC Highest-Paid List Until He Was Sacked - See the Top 10 Earners
The corporation said talent costs rose nearly 1.5% to £14.2 million, while four women appeared in its top 10 earners.
Former Radio 2 host Scott Mills was the BBC's highest earner at £745,000–£749,999 before being sacked in March, according to the BBC Annual Report released today.
Mills was terminated shortly before the Metropolitan Police investigation into allegations of historical sexual offenses involving a boy under 16 between 1997 and 2000 emerged; prosecutors later dropped the case.
Radio 1 DJ Greg James followed with £440,000–£444,999, while political journalist Laura Kuenssberg was the highest-paid female presenter at £405,000–£409,999.
Sara Cox replaced Mills on the Radio 2 Breakfast Show, while deputy director-general Rhodri Talfan Davies said recent pay cuts reflected a "balancing act" to compete with commercial rivals.
Overall BBC talent costs rose nearly 1.5% to £14.2M, though Davies claimed talent above the £500,000 threshold had been reduced by 50% over the past seven years.
