Cabinet Approves Multi-Crore Badvel Nellore 4-Lane Highway, Two Multitracking Projects of Railways in Maharashtra and MP
- On May 28, 2025, India’s Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs authorized the 108-kilometer four-lane highway between Badvel and Nellore, as well as two railway projects involving additional tracks in the states of Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh.
- The approvals followed government plans to enhance connectivity, reduce logistics costs, and support industrial corridors across Andhra Pradesh and central India.
- The highway project will shorten the distance to Krishnapatnam Port by approximately 34 km and is expected to create around 20 lakh workdays of direct employment. Meanwhile, the railway initiatives will extend the track length by 176 km, improving connectivity for 784 villages.
- The highway project costs ₹3,653.10 crore and the railway projects ₹3,399 crore, with the railway upgrades expected to increase freight traffic by 18.40 million tonnes annually by 2029-30.
- These infrastructure projects aim to improve supply chains, reduce fuel consumption and carbon emissions, and stimulate economic growth along key industrial corridors.
