Former Chilean President Michelle Bachelet acknowledged on Thursday the difficulties facing her candidacy for United Nations secretary-general. Asked at a public event in Santiago why she wants to lead the organization, she replied in a light tone: 'That's what I ask myself. Perhaps because I know I'm not going to be secretary-general.'

Michelle Bachelet, the former president of Chile who, with the support of the governments of Mexico and Brazil, launched her candidacy to lead the United Nations (UN), admitted yesterday, even with irony, that she will not be elected as secretary general of the body given the evidence of the bad results she obtained so far in the informal consultations of the Security Council.
The former Chilean president obtained only two endorsements in the last poll of the Security Council and referents of the ruling party believe that she should step aside to preserve her leadership
