STATEN ISLAND, NEW YORK, JUL 21 – The 39-year-old uncle was held after the baby was thrown down a garbage chute; the child was unharmed and is in stable condition, police said.
- In Staten Island’s Park Hill, a 39-year-old man placed a 1-year-old girl into a garbage chute, NYPD said, around 3:15 p.m.
- The NYPD said the suspect, an emotionally disturbed family member, has an unknown motive for the incident.
- Medical staff reported the baby had a minor abrasion to the torso, NYPD said, and was rushed to Richmond University Medical Center in stable condition.
- With the suspect, charges are pending, NYPD spokesman said, and his identity remains unreleased.
