- This marks the fifth avian flu case in Wisconsin this year and the first since March. Four cases occurred at commercial farms; one was found in a backyard flock in Dane County.
- Officials established a 10-kilometer control area to restrict poultry movement around the farm. The virus spreads through infected birds or "commingling with wild birds or their droppings, equipment or clothing worn by anyone working with the animals," according to DATCP.
- The Wisconsin Department of Health Services and Barron County Public Health are monitoring exposed farm workers for symptoms while the public health risk remains low. Birds from the flock will not enter the food system.
- To protect flocks, DATCP urges livestock owners to implement strong biosecurity measures, including keeping birds indoors and separating new additions for at least 30 days to prevent disease spread.
