Auto Industry Total Retail Sales up 26 Pc at 25,91,138 Units in July, Says FADA

FADA said July retail sales rose 25.89% year on year as EV volumes hit a record 3,27,901 units and every vehicle category posted its best July.

  • On Thursday, the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations reported total Indian auto retail sales surged 25.89 per cent year-on-year to 25,91,138 units in July, with every vehicle category achieving its best-ever July performance.
  • Dealers attribute this momentum to GST 2.0-led affordability, easier retail finance, and favorable festival timing, bolstering demand against a July 2025 base that had declined nearly 4 per cent.
  • Electric vehicle adoption hit a record 3,27,901 units in July, with overall penetration reaching about 12.7 per cent, noted Sai Giridhar, FADA Vice President.
  • Alternative-Fuel vehicles, including CNG and hybrids, captured 40.59 per cent of the passenger vehicle market, leaving them just 1.09 percentage points behind petrol's 41.68 per cent share.
  • Dealers remain optimistic with 87.85 per cent expecting growth through October; FADA described the outlook as "decisively constructive" with monsoon behavior and festive showroom conversion key monitorables.
