Auto expert issues 'not over yet' warning as JLR announce production return
Jaguar Land Rover is restarting UK production after a cyberattack halted operations for over five weeks and launched a supplier financing scheme to support affected small and medium businesses.
- On Tuesday , Jaguar Land Rover announced a phased restart of manufacturing and supplier support after the Aug. 31 cyber attack, with CEO Adrian Mardell calling it "an important moment for JLR and all our stakeholders."
- After the breach was detected on Aug. 31, investigators say JLR quickly took its IT systems offline while hackers who posted claims on Telegram said they exploited SAP Netweaver.
- The shutdown's toll includes about £5 million a day in losses and more than 30,000 vehicles affected, as production remains halted into its sixth week.
- So-Called Tier 1 suppliers will be eligible to receive fast payments shortly after order, with JLR reimbursing financing costs during the restart phase, supported by a £1.5 billion loan guarantee underwritten by the UK government.
- The company's supply chain employs around 120,000 people and experts called the government-backed bailout unorthodox and risky, noting Tata Consultancy Services managed much of JLR's IT in recent years.
