Authorities identify those killed in weekend North Carolina bar shooting
Nigel Edge, a decorated Marine veteran with PTSD, faces multiple first-degree murder and attempted murder charges after a premeditated shooting killed three and injured five at a Southport bar.
- Wednesday, city officials identified the victims of Saturday night's shooting at American Fish Company as Solomon Banjo, 36; Joy Rogers, 64; and Michael Durbin, 56.
- Investigators say Nigel Max Edge, 40, is a decorated Marine sergeant and Purple Heart recipient with U.S. Marine Corps service from 2003–2009 and significant mental health issues after combat injuries.
- An arrest warrant alleged an AR-style rifle with silencer and scope, prosecutors said, and police said Edge was arrested about a half hour later at Oak Island with a.380-caliber handgun.
- At a Monday hearing, Edge did not enter a plea and was held without bond as prosecutors said they may seek the death penalty, with a court date scheduled for Oct. 13.
- Five people were injured in the shooting, and a Southport Waterfront vigil on Saturday, Oct. 4, is planned as local leaders and businesses lead memorial efforts while Southport police continue investigating.
