21 arrested at active cockfight in Hunt Co., 65 live roosters seized
- On Sunday around 1:40 p.m. In Hunt County, Texas, deputies responded to a disturbance at a residence in the 600 block of HCR 1006 and discovered an alleged cockfighting ring where chicken fights appeared to be actively being held.
- Deputies were called to the scene after the Sheriff's Office received a call just after 1:30 p.m. About possible rooster fighting at the home.
- Officials found fighting pits and sharp blades commonly used in the fights during a search of the property, where deputies encountered a large crowd of people estimated to be near 100 individuals, many of whom fled upon learning of law enforcement's presence.
- Investigators seized 65 live roosters from the cockfight in Celeste, Texas, and officials arrested 21 individuals.
- The 21 individuals were transported to the Hunt County Jail and charged with a violation of Texas Penal Code 42.105 Cockfighting, an offense punishable by up to two years in a state jail and a $10,000 fine, as cockfighting has been illegal in Texas for decades and is a crime in all 50 states.
