Australian police release unseen photos 25 years after British backpacker Peter Falconio's murder
Police released new photos and bodycam footage as specialists re-examine the cold case, with a A$500,000 reward still on offer for Falconio’s remains.
Northern Territory Police released previously unseen photographs on Tuesday marking the 25th anniversary of British backpacker Peter Falconio's 2001 murder, hoping the images might jog memories or generate fresh leads.
Bradley Murdoch murdered Falconio on the Stuart Highway after flagging down his van, also abducting girlfriend Joanne Lees before her escape; Murdoch died in prison last year without disclosing the body's location.
New images include crime scene markers, the abandoned Volkswagen Kombi, and injuries sustained by Lees. Northern Territory Police Force Commissioner Martin Dole offered a A$500,000 reward, branding Murdoch a "coward" for his silence.
Forensic experts Mark Harrison and Kathy Canning-Mello are using modern investigative techniques to identify potential burial sites, with Harrison describing the case as an "active investigation" despite decades passing.
Detectives believe Murdoch may have confessed to others, urging the public to share information while documentary *Outback Terror: The Falconio Murder* explores the ongoing investigation into one of Australia's most haunting unsolved cases.
