The Australian government has taken a major step towards implementing a key climate policy that would force chief greenhouse gas polluters to reduce emissions, with the minor Greens party pledging their support.
Australia: Australia steps toward making big polluters reduce emissions
The Australian government's proposed emissions cuts are closer to being realised as the minor Greens party pledges its support for the Safeguard Mechanism initiative. This initiative aims to create a ceiling on Australian greenhouse gas emissions and forcing 215 major polluters to cut their emissions over time, equivalent to reducing CO2 emissions in Australia by two-thirds of car emissions by 2030.
