Australia Call in Two Bolters for Tests with Star Hurt
Nic Maddinson returns to Test contention after overcoming testicular cancer, while Josh Inglis is ruled out with a fractured finger and Cameron Green is uncertain.
Australia added Nic Maddinson and Sam Harper to its squad for the upcoming three-Test series against South Africa, announced Thursday ahead of the October 9 opener in Durban.
Josh Inglis is ruled out of the first Test due to a finger fracture, while all-rounder Cameron Green remains uncertain after sustaining an abdominal strain during Wednesday's final ODI.
Chief selector George Bailey said, 'Sam give us wicketkeeping cover as Josh continues his recovery while Nic provides flexibility throughout the batting order.' Maddinson returns after nearly 10 years, having recently struck 126 for NSW.
Opener Matt Renshaw has been cleared of a wrist injury, providing a boost for Australia's lineup. The team will play an intra-squad warm-up match in Potchefstroom this weekend before traveling to Durban on Monday.
The three-match series is part of the ICC World Test Championship, beginning October 9 in Durban. Subsequent Tests are scheduled for Gqeberha on October 18 and Johannesburg on October 27.
