Audi Commits to Appeal Against Tsunoda's Italian GP Result
Audi says the stewards misapplied Formula 1 rules after Yuki Tsunoda caused an extra formation lap, a ruling that left Gabriel Bortoleto 11th.
Audi has officially lodged an appeal against the FIA's decision not to penalize Racing Bulls driver Yuki Tsunoda for causing an extra formation lap during the Italian Grand Prix.
Race Director Rui Marques ordered the extra lap out of caution regarding Tsunoda's grid positioning; stewards determined the driver was not directly responsible for the restart.
Audi contends that Article B5.9.4 of the FIA Sporting Regulations requires any driver causing an extra formation lap to start from the pit lane, citing it as "black and white."
A successful appeal would result in a time penalty for Tsunoda, promoting Audi driver Gabriel Bortoleto from 11th into 10th place and securing a point for the team.
The team submitted its challenge within the mandatory 96-hour window, though the FIA has yet to set a date for the appeal hearing to resolve the matter.
