In the Zeeland village of Ouwerkerk, the 1953 Flood Disaster was commemorated on Saturday morning. According to Omroep Zeeland, which broadcast the commemoration live, around two hundred people attended. They stood still for the 1,836 people who died 72 years ago due to the floods, caused by a combination of a north-westerly storm and spring tide.
