Red Sox Bid for 2nd Win Streak of 10 or More Games Ends in 7-3 Loss to Athletics
Gage Jump struck out 11 and the Athletics used four extra-base hits to end Boston’s bid for a second 10-game streak.
On Saturday, the Athletics defeated the Boston Red Sox 7-3 at Fenway Park, ending Boston's nine-game winning streak before a sellout crowd of 36,696.
Boston's attempt to reach a second 10-game winning streak in its 126-year history fell short, while the Athletics snapped their own nine-game losing skid.
Athletics rookie lefthander Gage Jump struck out a season-high 11 batters over six innings, bringing his total to 18 strikeouts in two starts against the Red Sox.
Although the Red Sox took a 2-0 lead in the first inning, the Athletics erased the deficit with solo homers from Tyler Soderstrom and Henry Bolte.
With the loss, the Red Sox fell to third place in the American League East; the teams play Sunday's finale with Athletics RHP J.T. Ginn scheduled to start.
