Tech Billionaires and Artists Are Turned Into Robot Dogs that Will 'Poop' Images
Beeple's robotic quadrupeds capture and reinterpret the world through faces of iconic figures, producing NFT prints at Art Basel's Zero 10 section amid digital art growth.
- Recently at Art Basel in Miami's Zero 10 section, Mike Winkelmann, known as Beeple, debuted Regular Animals, robotic quadrupeds with hyperreal silicone celebrity faces that drew spectators filming the spectacle.
- Beeple said the project warns how tech billionaires and their algorithms `control these very powerful algorithms` shaping perception under the title `We are not ready for the future`.
- Designed by Landon Meier, mask maker, the robots produce 1,028 prints, including 6 barcoded NFT-claim works, with some sold for $100,000 each.
- Spectators filmed and reacted as Mike Winkelmann, known as Beeple, stood inside the Zero 10 pen handing out prints while two small dogs barked at the robotic quadrupeds, and Beeple said `The reaction's been pretty good, I'm not gonna lie`.
- Given Beeple's market history, including a $69.3 million sale at Christie’s, the art’s three-year blockchain storage raises questions about digital art’s longevity, as Art Basel’s 2025 report shows recent growth.
