‘Fantastic future ahead’: Coach after China wins first Asian Games football medal in 28 years
After finishing runners-up at the Under-23 Asian Cup in February, China’s side went onto claim bronze the 2026 Asian Games in Japan’s Aichi-Nagoya by beating Uzbekistan on penalties following a 2-2 draw.
The Uzbekistan U-23 national football team lost to China in the contest for the bronze medal of the Asian Games, which are being held in Japan. The main time ended in 2:2. The winner was determined in a penalty shootout, in which China prevailed 4:3.
On the afternoon of October 3rd, the Chinese U23 team defeated the Uzbekistani U23 team 4-3 in a penalty shootout (after a 2-2 draw in 90 minutes) to win the bronze medal in men's football at the 20th Asian Games.
The regular time ended in a 2-2 draw. In the penalty shootout, luck favored the Chinese national team.
