CHANCE HARBOUR, NEWFOUNDLAND AND LABRADOR, JUL 14 – A fast-moving wildfire near Chance Harbour has damaged multiple cabins and forced evacuations as firefighting crews deploy helicopters and air tankers to contain the blaze.
- Eight wildfires are currently burning in Newfoundland, with a provincewide fire ban in effect, according to the provincial fire duty officer Mark Lawlor.
- Residents near the Chance Harbour resource road cabin area are advised to evacuate immediately due to the threatening fire, as per the Department of Fisheries, Forestry and Agriculture.
- The Pamehac Brook North fire, larger than all others, has burned approximately 1,034 hectares, prompting temporary evacuation orders for nearby residents.
- Conditions are unfavorable for fire crews to reach some fires, increasing risks to surrounding cabins.
